I thought I would post this here as I think it is an interesting banknote....
Originally issued in 1922, the banknote has been used to help advertise a play being performed in 1925 in England. The banknote itself was worthless at the time and many thousands must have made their way to other countries........by way of souvenirs or momentos etc etc. Tons of money was literally not worth the paper it was written on. At the end of 1923, you had to spend any money you had in the morning because it was going to be worth much less in the afternoon!
Now think of the old theatre halls around Britain, with their plays and joviality in the years just after the Great war. Contradict that back to the times when these sorts of notes were being produced and we can see the great differences and understand,....to some degree, why parts of history played out the way they did......The German People felt great resentment with their burden from the Treaty of Versailles, their economic struggles after WWI and the hyper-inflationary period.
The play 'Tons of Money' at the Theatre Royal in Bournemouth, was advertised on this note and nicely for us collectors, was dated as January 1925.

50,000 Marks: That's a steep rice for a couple of hours of British musical hall entertainment!
But apparently not so in Bournemouth.

In 1922, you could get good theatre tickets in a British music hall for two (Pommy) bob!
(- for info. to Americans, that's Two Shillings - One Florin.)

Yes - I don't know how much the theatre tickets would have actually been, but the advertisement on the banknote just shows how worthless the German money got. Just to use it as advertising material, it was like using a scrap of paper........but quite ingenious an idea, with the title of the play in mind
