This is not mine, but I thought IHC collectors would enjoy seeing this fascinating coin. This is a unique piece, and the reverse die has not been seen on another 1865 proof (graded PR-65BN by PCGS).

An interesting detail of this photo is how it shows how the reeding extends from the normal dimensions of the IHC, ie the reeding is cut into the collar.

So this is a pattern coin? Where's a photo of the reverse?

Sorry, but I haven't seen a photo of the reverse either; you can see everything that Rick Snow posted here.
I'm sure this photo was simply taken to capture the reeding, which I found fascinating and helpful to distinguish coins struck with reeding vs. those with reeding cut post-mint.

Very Interesting. Somewhere around here, I have an Indian Head cent with a reeded edge that looks very much like this. I don't remember the date. The reeding is excellent on my coin and doesn't look to be added post mint.

Even so, I chalked it up to being a post mint, tampered with coin. It may in fact be a damaged coin, but this is going to cause me to take a better look at my coin, if I can find where I put it:-)

Thanks for the post:-)

That Indian Head is beautiful. I always hope to run across a pattern piece.

I always assume (yes I know what they say about assume) when I see a reeded edge where it doesn't belong that it is post mint.

But....
If this is post mint, it sure looks perfect!
