A friend asked me to post this coin on the forum for some more knowlegeable information than what I could give him on this coin. To me it looks like a badly altered coin to make it look like a 1804. The date just looks off. I figured I would see what you guys think was the actual date if at all possible and see if you have any insight into the coin and its value at this point.

If this coin a genuine with altered date, that is a crying shame.
It would have about 5-10 % of value of the most common date draped bust Half Dollar of equivalent condition.

To me, this coin has been vandalized.
That is why it is a crying shame.

If it was a fake with no alteration, then it is worth nothing. If it is an altered fake, it is worth less than nothing.

My thoughts are it's an authentic draped bust half, just not an 1804.

I think it was once an 1806 O-110, choice VF/Low EF worth a good chunk of change once.

I'm wondering why they would alter it to make an 1804 half dollar, a coin that doesn't exist. Trying to fill the 1801 - 07 run without a break?
