I like to buy a coin like this occasionally for educational purposes and opinions.

Nothing wrong with this coin. Borderline F12 detail. Obverse looks "dusty" from the scans but actually just dark. Heavy album toning.

I could dip it (I WON'T) as it is what it is. How about you folks - what would you do?

No biggie I got it cheap.

I would never dip any circulated coin because as you said it is what it is, I can kind of understand someone dipping a MS coin if it has ugly spots or something on it but a circulated coin that has been dipped is just plain ugly
Rest in Peace

Personally, I LOVE IT! I would pay F12 money all day for that. I don't understand what the hype is about shiny untarnished silver? This coin has tons of character...good buy!

I guess it would depend on the rest of the coins in the album....I kinda like it the way it is though.

It's nice to see responses from people that appreciate and "ugly" coin.

There were very few coins in this ablbum and all with toning. This one was in the best shape and darkest toned so I bought it.

I might dunk it in an organic solvent like acetone to see if some of that greyish haze comes off but the underlying dark tone is nice

No way would I do anything to this coin. Beautiful circulated piece. I don't collect these, but something like that tempts me to start

I agree with most - leave it alone. It has great character as it is now. It's very appealing to my eye!

I wouldn't have bought it, but then again I have always been a detractor of the SLQ as I just don't like the design. I can't even tell you why I don't like it, I just don't.

Leave it. You could be taking off 50-80 years of toning in 1 second with dipping. This coin is dark but nice details.

hot to worry folks. I would never touch a coin like this.
The ONLY thing I could accomplish is messing it up.

It's got character and it was cheap. Guess that makes it a cheap character.

A little kitchen cleanser and a toothbrush would really make it shiny!
Actually, this is just how it should look! There are so few "original" silver coins left that those with the natural patina intact sometimes command a premium. It is a beautiful coin for the grade, but as we have seen from the responses, clembo, beauty is in the eye of the beholder!
