I'd like to thank a friend, who out of the blue sent me this great trails Lincoln.
Until now, I haven't seen one of these coins, and this is a very dramatic example that will get me interested in understanding how "trails" are produced on dies.
Judging from the details and that die scratch between STATES and oF, I would judge this to be 1995P-1DER-027T 250°--what do others think?
Thanks again for the coin!

I would hazard a guess and say "yes" it is the 27 die. There is one thing about trails (wavy steps) that is frustrating though and that is the pattern of trails. You can have very similar looking trail (same pattern) dies occur within the same year and that is why die markers and matching them to that die is important.

That is a nice coin and if you will notice, I used this die on the opening page of traildies.com

Thanks BJ Neff and Chuckster! I'm beginning to see that trails are a bit different from doubled dies, and I need to educate myself on these subtleties. I'm actually most accustomed to IHC varieties. I should have also provided photos of the markers; the die crack through the W in WE in quite prominent, as are the die chips on the Memorial.

Man, I have tossed about 20 or so of these type of 1995 cents back in the Coinstar box over the last few months. Do they add collectiblity or they just a novelty?

Nelrak - if it were just a novelty, I would have not spent the last 5 years trying to figure these anomalies out. Take a look at this site that is dedicated to trail dies and see what you think.

BJ Neff - Very commendable job! You got me going through my most recent "toss back" box of cents for the 95s in it!

Nice coin Kurt, I usually don't collect cents, but I've keep all the wavy steps & trails. Interesting and different.
