If you were to put together a collection of Lincoln cents that included EVERY date, mint, error and variety, how many coins would it be?

This should make Chuck and Bill think!

Hi,

Easy answer....It is virtually impossible to calculate this.

There are well over 300 regular issue and proof coins that would be the basis of the "set".

When you get into die varieties, There are thousands when you consider all the RPMs, OMMs, Hub Doubled Die varieties and so on. There are over 100 RPMs just on 1961 D cents.

Now the kicker is in the way you asked the question:-) It is impossible to collect EVERY "whatever" in a set when you include errors as every single error is by nature unique even though many would fall into the same categories.

So the answer is that there would be an infinite number of coins in the "set" as you describe it making it impossible to state a definite number of coins.

It's late:-) I shouldn't be thinking this hard:-)

Have Fun,
Bill

As presently known...about 3,000.

But that collection would have to expand every time a new discovery is made - a couple per week on average.
