Weheew!!. I had this baby shipped to me for $51.00. There are a few rub marks on the obv. and rev. and a small "scratch" on the rev. at 9 o'clock. Very bright and dripping with luster!. I gotta show SOMEBODY!. Image: 1927florin1.jpg74.47 KB Image: 1927florin2.jpg79.49 KB

That's very nice! I'm unfamiliar with grading this particular coin, since it has a unique portrait. But I think it's easily an aUNC--and a very nice deal for $51

G'day, that's a very nice coin. And you got it for a good price. Grading of these has to be a little tough: it seems that most of these were taken out of circulation soon after release, and it is rare to see one with much evidence of circulation. And, this was Oz's first commemorative coin. Congratulations, Peter

A 1927 Parliament Florin (as opposed to the regular 1927 Florin with the normal reverse) commemorating the opening of Parliament House in Canberra in 1927. This was Australia's first commemorative coin and has a different obverse to other George V florins. This portrait wears differently to the normal George V coins and thus the usual grading points cannot be applied. Yours has some marks in the fields and the detail from the bands of the maces on the reverse is gone so I'd say it's probably an EF coin, possibly AU if it's just a poor strike. If it's bright white then it's probably been dipped too. Here's an uncirculated one for you to ponder:

Is that a proof Walter? There seems to be some cameo there.

It's an interesting coin, it has a full cameo finish (much richer in real life) however the proofs of the type have a semi-cameo finish. It's struck from highly polished dies with mirror fields and matte relief however it's struck to a very commercial depth. I suspect that it's just one of the first commercial strikes off the die.
PCGS called it MS63 Prooflike - it's the only prooflike example they've handled and I haven't encountered any others.
I know every coin owner says this about their Canberra florin, but it really is more beautiful than the proof.

Really hard to tell from those pics Justa, the first parts to wear are small and so even harder to see with these. Any chance of bigger pics? Points to look at for wear on the reverse will be the orbs on the scepters and the date, the obverse will be the usual places, tip of moustache, crown etc.
