Hello everyone I am looking at buying my first gold coin. I have someone trying to sell me this $5 Indian. Would anyone be so kind to take a look for me? He swears its real but who knows. Thank you!

Thank you for the fast reply John1. Thy person said he got it from his grandparents. I am not near him so I can only go by the pics he sends me. Oh, and he wants $300 for it.

I'm afraid that doesn't look genuine to me -- the digits in the date look wrong, particularly that the 4 should not have serifs at the base. Compare to a genuine piece at https://images.PCGS.com/TrueView/36...3_Medium.jpgEdit to add: it also doesn't appear to have the designer's initials "BLP" above the date. That could be wear or just a bad photo but it seems odd.

Darn I see that at the bottom of the 4. And it does not look nearly worn enough for the BLP to be completely gone. Wow, I will let this seller know. I hope nobody buys it from him. Back to the search for me! Thank you so so much!

Good detective work, Alpha. No way wear would have erased those designer's initials. Agree this is a counterfeit.

He wanted to sell me this one as well. You cannot even make out the initials on this one. At least they are there on this one. Geez.

If the first one is not genuine, I wouldn't lay odds on this one either. It looks a *little* better, but my trust factor is low. "Thanks, but no thanks."

It was a friend of a friend, a few hours away. I agree, its too risky considering the first one was not real. Thanks again everyone.

Yea I noticed the date right away. Looks wrong. I'd stay away from both and buy a slabbed one. You can get AU coins in slabs for reasonable numbers.
