So my sister found this 50p when shopping and it gas us a bit baffled as I haven't seen one like this, even when doing Google searches.

What do all of you think about it?

Minting error or purposefully cut and shaped.

Blank with two bites.
Double bites are very scarce,
but because on nearly opposite sides of the coin in this case, makes the Blakesley Effect hard to identify.

For this reason, the nature of the cuts themselves have to be very carefully examined by an experienced professional numistmatist.

Try placing two 50p's into the cutouts. If they fit nicely it does not prove your coin is a genuine error. but helps. However, if they fit badly, then your error is a fake error made after minting.
