I know that the non-PVC flips are prone to cracking. I have always bought the double ones you can fold and that come with the insert. These are my preferred model. I prefer flips to 2x2s.

The ones I have typically crack in the middle between the two sections-if they crack at all. This leaves a very jagged edge.

Does anyone think buying single pocket flips is the answer?

I know not to buy the softer ones with PVC.

Thank you for reading!

Any help appreciated.

Why don't you like 2x2s? just curious

I am not aware of single pocket stiff ones. How could you keep the coins from falling out without something to fold over?

They sell some that seem to seal. Of course I will research the adhesive if I ever get those.

As for 2x2s....I have them. I use them. But I find myself often cutting them open for one reason or another to get at the coin.

By the way, coin collecting tip...always use 2x2s one size too big. That way you can get them out without removing a staple.

Also, I would use 2x2s without stapling if I was putting them into a large pocket page.

thistheshow:-
You are on the right track when avoiding soft PVC materials for long term coin storage.
All non PVC single pocket flips are fine, and in most cases, cost very little extra.

I have a few thousand coins in Mylar / cardboard flips, but they offer no physical protection, when they are stored in contact with each other. That is why they they are all stored in non PVC album pages.

I still prefer 2x2 flips. You can always remove staples and reuse them. Gives you a place to write on for what is inside. Little to no movement of the coin. Also, really cheap.

Single pocket flips are the most common variety sold in the UK, but some of them are PVC. I bought some Mylar ones a few years ago from Vera Trinder in Covent Garden in London, but that shop has now closed. Their website lists flips for sale but unhelpfully just describes them as 'plastic'.

trading cards are often stored in mylar sleeves since the card has ink artwork. these mylar sleeves come in many sizes from ultrapro and other proven top class companies

maybe the sleeves sized for cigarette cards might serve as a trial to see how it goes...

regards
