1884 Morgan~ What Should I Store Her In?

SilverLee33 Valued Member United States 54 Posts	Posted 02/14/2020 11:59 am My 1884 Morgan is now a grey, gun-metal color~ It's not too bad, but I really don't like the dark spots around the edges. It's my fault for storing her in a box with other coins without any protection for 40 years... My dad gave her to me~ he said he won her while playing gin {a card game} I'm keeping her so I would like to know what should I put her in before she turns darker? SilverLee33 Valued Member United States 54 Posts	Posted 02/14/2020 2:20 pm Thank you John1~ I'm going to Hobby Lobby later to get a couple of them. I figured my "1972 Ike" needs one also. The crazy thing is my Ike was stored with my Morgan and he never turned darker and there are not any dark spots on him like my Morgan now has. Different alloys? Either way, I'm happy he survived with minimal damage! {I think} I hope this post helps at least one beginner and they now know what can happen if they store their coins improperly! Jayyk31 Valued Member United States 211 Posts	Posted 02/15/2020 09:25 am If your Ike is a business strike then its clad (copper/nickel) vs the Morgan is 90% silver. So they would surely tarnish/tone differently. I love the "Air Tight" capsules. I give my coins a bath in acetone (pure) and then stick them in an "Air Tight" capsule for storage.
