Charlton says that the composition of 1997 1 cent in MS, PL, and SP is copper-plated zinc, 2.25 g.
The spec cards in the sets say that it is bronze, 2.50 g.
Which one is true? I think they are bronze.
But 1 cent coin in some Winnipeg sets has a suspicious reddish tone which is characteristic for copper plating.
I could weigh the coins to find the answer, but I don't wont to destroy the PL sets. Maybe someone already knows the answer or has the loose coins and can check the weight.

On a similar note, Charlton says that 1 cent specimen for 1998 to 2000 is copper-plated zinc as well. I am pretty sure that this is a mistake. The specimen coins are bronze. And from 2001 they are plated steel, so no specimen was ever made of CP Zinc.

Interesting!

I never noticed 'til you got me looking.
You are right about the 1997 PL sets, the card says "...2.5 bronze"
The '98 sets say "...2.25 copper plated zinc"
"Dipping" is not considered cleaning...
