Hi

I purchased a 50 years of the 50p Bunc pack the other day and I noticed what appeared to be a scratch on the Kew Gardens coin across the cheek of HRH. As this is supposed to be a Bunc coin and it's in a mint condition pack, I took it out for a closer look.

Unfortunately I don't have an image of that side of the coin as something else caught my eye. Looking at the tower it seems to be off centre; most notible at the top of the coin where the tip of the tower does not quite meet the top corner of the coin. Also, the dates around the edge seem very close to the boarder.

Is this just my eyes or has this coin been struck a little misaligned?

Thanks for looking

Rob

Hello Robm and

Your post is very interesting. I must admit I had never noticed the pagoda being slightly off-centre...

I've compared your 2019 Kew 50p with the one in my set and it looks identical. Here's mine:

Here's the original 2009 coin for comparison. The dates do not seem to be quite so close to the edge, and the tip of the tower looks more central! This is the coin in my 2009 BU set - I have never found a 2009 Kew 50p in circulation!

Hi and thanks.

Having now seen both of yours, it must simply be how the later versions have been produced.

Do you happen to know how many of the 2019 versions were made in comparison to the original and how does their value compare?

I don't think The Royal Mint has released the mintage figures yet.
