2016 Lincoln Shield Cent - Die Clash, Cud, Doubled, Abraded

Sorry but I'm quite sure that your first thought was correct. I'm primarily seeing damage--no die clash, no Cuds, and maybe only a whisper of Machine Doubling.

I definitely see PMD as well, but the rim separation and the scratches going under the letters/design is what makes me think mint damage. Here are a couple more pictures that show what I'm referring to. Maybe An example of a design creep? Lol I don't know, but I see images of on the reverse side, like floating? 2nd to last picture here shows it next to shield looks like another image of shield to left of that.

I'm unfamiliar with the term "design creep", but even with these new pics, I'm still convinced that your coin is only damaged. As to the possibility of a mintmark on the rim just above the L of LIBERTY, that seems pretty unlikely to me. I agree that the hunk of raised metal is somewhat D-shaped though.
