Don't know what this is, and honestly doesn't look like feeder finger marks on the die to me, but they are raised so something put them on the die.

Raised on the coin's surface, but indented on the rim?
Interesting.

Maybe some type of large die gouge? Something with a pattern identical to your coin's marks may have scratched the die? Doesn't look like it matches feeder finger scrapes to me. Very interesting.

TB , it looks like a metal file was used to dress the face of the die that struck your coin.
The tiny knives that make up the cutting face of a file are at an angle to the length of a file. A straight stroke a file will leave a clean finish but often it is easy to move the file atan angle as the stroke finishes and leave grooves in the stock. This looks to have happened at the shoulder of this die

The angle of the incuse marks looks like a different angle. If these were on the gutter that is on the outside rim of the die, these would also be raised. (But aren't) But it is a die event that altered the die. I've not seen this before. A keeper. If it is a die issue, then there should be more of these from this die out there.

Whatever damaged the face of the die would not have been able to get down into the "gutter" as well so those marks are the result of something else.

The gutter area is the rim. The lines are on the edge of the fields on the field area of the die.

Thanks for all the comments! This one goes in the collection as an undetermined die issue likely from errant file marks on the die. But I agree that given how obvious this is on the coin, that it is surprising that it hasn't been reported before. Maybe just because it doesn't fit in as anything in particular it gets passed by.

Yes and for the lines on the rim are at the inside edge of the rim. For them to have been made by the same thing that caused the lines on the field they would have had to cut into the field all the way down to the level of the gutter. You might be able to have one event create marks on the field and the OUTSIDE edge of the rim, but not the inside.

Also the marks on the appear to be at a slightly different angle than those on the field.

Aren't the marks on the rim of this coin incuse? If so that would make those short marks PSD and not die damage.

The marks on the edge of the field are raised in relief and a file makes a lot of sense (since one might be found around machinery.)
Words of encouragement are one of the major food groups.
We need to consume them regularly to thrive and grow.
