I've got a few French coins that I don't quite know.

The first one greatly resembles a 1779 Stampee from French Colonies (KM2 blank planchet). But I've always been bothered. The crown just doesn't look quite the same as the one listed in Krause. Also, Krause lists that this should be a billon planchet and this does not look billon at all, it looks copper or bronze. I know that billon can be a lot of colors, depending on how much silver is added, but this looks like no silver was added. Does this come from one of the obscure French colonies like St. Lucia or Martinique?

The second French coin I have is a 1986 100 Francs Statue of Liberty commem (some version of KM960). I just realized how big mine is, it weighs in at about 36 g and is super thick (it is so thick I can see my image in the surface of the edge). Krause lists a piefort for this date. But since no details about weight are given, I'm not sure. Might this be a platinum version? What color is platinum?
Rest in Peace

platinum is a grey silver (quite ugly, actually) and is roughly twice as dense as silver. That is to say, it will weigh about twice as much as a silver coin of the same size.

The 100 Franc silver piedfort, should be marked Piedfort in tiny letters near the rim of the reverse, left of Fraternite and weigh 30 grams.

My scale is not great, but it is definitely a lot more than 30 grams.

edit, just noticed the "piefort" on the coin.
