I was wondering if someone could take a peek at a coin for me. I did a search of these forums (and Google in general) and it looks like there is some at home process for removing the copper coating from recent mintage cents that are copper coated zinc.

I have had this cent sitting in holder for probably 25+ years but I didn't know what it was.

My only reason that it might be something different is that it is highly reflective . . . almost mirror-like. I don't know if heated zinc keeps this when the copper comes off. None of my 1943 pennies are this nice.

Take a look, four pictures: one obverse, one reverse and one taken in the sun to try to capture how reflective it is (it is very out of focus, but you can see the blue sky and the darker edge of my roof). The fourth picture shows an odd pattern on the background, that might be what happens when the copper is removed.

Thanks for the help!

Forgot two additional notes:

1) It is not magnetic.
2) I don't have the ability to weigh it . . . and I suspect the cost of a scale vastly exceeds the value of this coin.

It appears to be plated because of how reflective it is.

Yes I agree with the @cp1 that this coin was likely plated (over the normal copper plating) rather than stripped to reveal the zinc core.

Plated. Not much of a premium for this. Keep hunting!

Thanks folks.

I think it will remain in my collection just because it is pretty, but now I can make a note of what it actually is.
