As title really, I don't think it is pre 1600 and looks as if it could be European but after that I am at a loss, so any ideas much appreciated.
weight 0.9g. diameter approx 18mm.
Thanks
Brian.

Looks like a solidus from the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, Sigismund III Vasa. Here is the Numista link: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces126670.html

The year is difficult to read. (16)14? Perhaps someone of the real experts on these coins here, like tdziemia, can confirm and comment further.

Nice work @erafjel. I agree that the third digit in the date is a 1, making this the date on this coin 161X.

The up-and-down arrows at the bottom of the first picture are the mark of the Vilnius mintmaster during this reign.
And as you say, the numerals for the last two digits of the date are in the field to left and right of the S monogram in the second photo, so it is 1614 (the 4 is just visible at the right edge of the coin).

These solidi from Vilnus and Riga mints, and the poltoraks from Bromberg mint 1614 to 1627 are nice series for collectors of older world coins because (a) a lot of them are available on the market at very reasonable prices, (b) many have survived in high grades. Many collectors here on CCF have some in their collections (I just picked up a lot of 5 in mostly EF/AU for $50 )

So @JBL, maybe you will have another soon!

Thanks all, super information as usual, very much appreciated.

I picked up a little set of five of these but hadn't realised that they were all very similar. I'll put up pics of the others in due course.

Cheers
Brian.
