This is a hammered silver coin I have been trying to ID for ages 12mm

I'm guessing the staff thinks the coin might not necessarily be English, and believes that the people of Ancient & Medieval Coins subforum are better placed to comment on that issue.

(I agree with this, incidentally.)

Close. It was in the Identification forum. It was moved here because of the medieval nature.

Have to say you are 100% correct. The coin actually belongs to my son and we are both delighted. At first I thought maybe English with a French connection just shows how little we know. Really thought no one in this site would have found it how wrong I have been really glad I joined this site. Now I am going to try and learn how to take good photos
