Has anyone ever come across a 1909s V.D.B in one of those old bank rolls sold on ebay. Is it possible? I've seen rolls with a 1909s on one side and V.D.B on the other. Is it highly unlikely that this could be a full roll of vbd's? Or have any other key dates been found. Some look so promising... but afraid to get shafted. I love finding surprises in rolls.

99.9% chance that they have already been searched at some point.

99.9% may be a bit conservative. Closer to 100%. Think about your comment for just a moment ... who in their right mind would sell a potential roll of 09-SVDB on a site like ebay. If you saw an 09-S on one end, that really surprises me. I see these and for personal amusement I check the seller's feedback profile ... especially what he/she has been buying lately. The less sophisticated ones have recent history of buying bulk wheats (also unsearched), blank cent rolls and a crimper. No rocket science needed to make the correct deduction.

When I first started buying coins on ebay about 8 years ago I tried a few of these "unsearched rolls". The date and mintmark distribution and lack of any key/semi-key dates made me realize I'd been had. Don't expect anything more than 30's, 40's, and 50's and a "salting" of teens and 20's from Philadelphia. Been there, done that.

Thanks for the replies. That's what I thought. I figure people have been searching almost 100 years for these coins. Check out this listing 160293357890. The paper doesn't look too old, so they would have been rolled some time later.

I guarantee you that if I inherited this roll (as he claims to have), I would crack it! Assuming it is real, I could make an honest profit (or more likely trade) on that 1909-S and still be able to sleep at night with a clear conscious.

That said, I seriously doubt he has no knowledge of what is in that roll. IMHO, the curious nature of human beings is just too strong!
