I found this 84 LMC in roll searching this afternoon.

It looks pretty mangled by a pair of pliers or clippers or whatever to me, but I'm not familiar in any way, shape, or form what to look for with clipped planchets so here are some pics.

Thanks for the help!

I found this on the Net

Here is a picture of a ragged clip.

Any possibility that this 84LMC is this error?

Nope, notice how that one is plated on the ragged edge? Zincolns are plated after the blanks are punched and that is the step where an incomplete planchet(clip or ragged edge) would occur. Besides, it is impossible to have three ragged clips arranged like that.

What you have here is a coin that had the plating scratched off in three spots on the rim. They are now suffering from zinc rot. this coin will eventually disappear totaly as it rots away.

The folks who indicated rot are 100% correct. This is not an error of any kind. It is severe corrosion.

Thanks,
Bill

Looks like a metal detecting coin.

The zinc cents often look like this after a very short time in the ground.

Definite post mint.
