1984 Lincoln Memorial Cent - Chewed Up Or Clipped Planchet?

chuckster 125 Pillar of the Community United States 4113 Posts	Posted 10/22/2008 7:37 pm I found this 84 LMC in roll searching this afternoon. It looks pretty mangled by a pair of pliers or clippers or whatever to me, but I'm not familiar in any way, shape, or form what to look for with clipped planchets so here are some pics. biokemist6 Bedrock of the Community United States 12437 Posts	Posted 10/22/2008 9:59 pm Nope, notice how that one is plated on the ragged edge? Zincolns are plated after the blanks are punched and that is the step where an incomplete planchet(clip or ragged edge) would occur. Besides, it is impossible to have three ragged clips arranged like that. Report this Post to the Staff
ziggy9 Valued Member United States 499 Posts	Posted 10/22/2008 11:09 pm What you have here is a coin that had the plating scratched off in three spots on the rim. They are now suffering from zinc rot. this coin will eventually disappear totaly as it rots away. Richard Report this Post to the Staff
