Hi my game since it can never be a real goal is to get one copy in 1/10th oz or 1/4 toz or even 1/2 ounce of every gold coin:)

These coins must be graded 70 and slabbed and be pure four nines fine gold = 99 %or higher like .9999

where could I find a solid book that just deals with modern gold , I do not want some price guide , but rather a quality book that gives info on countries and their activities relating to modern gold coins.

Does such a book exist that illustrates different world gold coins and gives some info on specifications and why the coin was minted ?

I do not seem to be able to find a good generalist modern gold coin reference book , especially one that is recently printed ;)

thanks ! ! !

Without doubt:-
'World Gold coins' 1601 to present Each coins illustrated by type, (I would extimate 20,000 differnt World gold coins illustrated)
Krause Publications
My copy is the third edition - I bought if for $10, in a second hand bookshop, about 15 years ago.

Lots of modern World proof collector gold coins are worth bullion value only, when you try to sell them back to a dealer.
"All that glitters is not gold" - Shakespeare: Merchant of Venice

Nevertheless practically all of the coins illustrated in my copy could be found using Google Images, using an accurate search description. A search using NGC World Coin Values should give you a current catalog value for condition.

To get a rough numismatic premium above the gold gold catalog value using NGC World coin values, find the AGW and thus the current gold value and subtract that value for the coin value listed. That will yield the numismatic premium catalog value for the coin.
Same can be done for any gold coin currently offered on the market, Just subtract the actual gold value for the overall market value for the coin.

I am just lazy. If I am not interested in the value, and simply wish to identify the gold coin, I just use the book instead. Much quicker.
