John, the /18 is the first two digits. The punch was backwards and upside down.

This came in. There was a little surprise. The seller was Henry T. Hettger, a well known numismatic researcher and collector. Along with the coin, he sent a note he typed on a manual typewriter. Sometimes, when collecting coins, you run into small kindnesses that one would likely not otherwise encounter in the 21st century. Like jpbone suspected, the coin looks beautiful in hand.

I always shrink the photo down to actual size when looking at it. Gives me a better idea of how it will look un magnified.
