anyone have a picture of the near and far 6 - I think I have only the far variety... can't quite tell.

it is. UNtil you have both varieties then you can see the difference pretty easily. Some varieties are so slight that I never find them. The 1996 is one of them. I just keep all my 1996 nickels until one day when I have time to realy pay attention.

Agreed--it's like splitting hairs at first glance. Of course, I find that's what Canadian varieties usually involve extreme detail, lol. What often helps me is finding a visual reference point on the coin to compare that distance--such as a serif width. That's the theory at least...I've spend countless hours looking for stuff like this

On the near 6, it looks as if CANADA (and date) is bolder than the far 6 (check out the serifs on the lettering), and the circle of the 6 is oval shaped on the near 6, yet it's almost a perfect circle in the far 6.

These coins are the same value, an MS-65 in either of the examples are worth 12 dollars. The Attachewd 6 is worth 100 in MS-65!

yup, that site was useless to me for the 1996 nickel, but it's been great for other information. Still, it says "more to come" in too many places. I hope that information is soon forthcoming!
