I think it's only Die Deterioration Doubling but it has a cool factor to it. It's also the first one I have found for this date. Just wanted to show you all and in case it's something else please let me know. Also notice the lines in the denticles. Thanks all,
John1

This double date is recognized on the 1962 5 cent coin and I have seen some sell for quite a bit...

This is the 1st double date I have seen on a 1962 penny..

Nice find and cool coin.......

great coin! How did you find this John - were you able to see it with your naked eyes or did you notice it through a loupe? I've never been able to see something like this without magnification

So it's "not" a doubled die? Any value? Would this be the same as the 1972 Lincoln Cent that has master die doubling and has no added value because there are so many of them?If it is considered a doubled die which class is it? Thanks again,
John1

I found a neat American nickel from the 1960's the other day with a weird dot in the 6 (stay tuned for pics on the American coin forum). I think this cent is much neater. I've started checking each '62 carefully!

I have several dates with that same type "doubling'. It is Machine doublimng. The main difference is in the shape of the numbers/letters etc in that MD leaves a flat, shelf-like surface, while the "HUB" doubling is rounded, and does have cotches bwtween the serifs. The DDD, Die Deterioration, is (IMHO), recognized by the "overall doublind (apparent), and flow of metal in all directions. If I am in error partly, or wholly, please let me know.
I hang onto every one I find, just like the dce cracks.
