MS63+, the spot almost looks like corrosion. But I've never seen corrosion on gold..

For what it's worth, this is what I see when I blow it up. It looks like pitting to me.Though, I've never seen gold corrode, it's a very stable metal that doesn't oxidize well, and has a low copper content. Maybe a planchet flaw?

Could have been some dirt that ended up on the planchet before striking as it is struck into the surface. MS-62
