Evening you all,

Lee from MS and I'm new here but have always have had a fascination with coins and metals. I always appreciated a beautiful coin and most recently started to pay more attention. I don't have much of a collection but they are a few particular coins that arent expensive but I would like own.

Reason I'm posting is my curiosity in a dime I came across. If anyone could elaborate on this I'd much appreciate it.

Thanks in advance,
-Lee

@phon, first welcome to CCF. Second, it looks like this dime has sustained some damage. This arc-shaped line can occur when the coin is at the end of a roll being wrapped. Normally, we just see a gouge such as visible along the bottom of UNITED. In the case of your coin though some of the letters of STATES have been really smushed.

Thanks again for the warm welcomes. About the original coin; Does this coin qualify as an error and with that holds a premium to its value? As a newbie paying attention to details, every bit of information is welcomed and appreciated.

Another interesting dime I come across would be this one I'll include photos of next. It appears to have extra material stamped or pressed during the coins production. Let me know what you think as to what caused this anomaly and how it affects its value.

If there is a way to improve my photos in order to provide the coins best impression, I would appreciate that advice. Wether it's by angle or by reflections.

Thanks I'm advance!

1. One coin per thread.
2. Orient the coin facing up.
3. Crop.
4. Ensure the coin is in-focus.
5. Make sure the images are large enough for us to see what you are talking about.

Go back and read Spence first reply. Damaged coins are not collectible and only worth face value. In this case it's worth is ten cents
