The variety you're thinking of is called the accented hair variety. It is only found on proof coins, so your BU coin cannot be this variety. Nice coins!

what about where the 'I' is in liberty? The bottom is chopped of but there inst any additional damage to it. I wonder if this is just a coincidence.
