I found this in the very first role I went through. It's so smooth it has to be a die break.

Hi

I would think if the line in question was raised and not smooth
that would indicate a crack. I think a die break would have even
more random raised areas around the line.

Yes, agreed a die break, and a very strong one at that.

I don't think so. It is very strong, but does not extend past the edges of the banner. I would expect a heavy crack to extend on out into the die face.

I haven't seen an AZ quarter yet. Is the banner raised and are the letters raised or incuse? Is the "die crack" raised or incuse?

Banner raised, letters incuse. Crack going through A. Either a hit or maybe struck wire on the large impression.

Or maybe a gouge, if it's raised.

I have 5 quarters,BU, but only one shows any marking
like, or similar to, and it is bag marking. The marks on my coin are a bit left of the one on the "A", and the one that is near the "B" goes at a slight angle, but more to the right side of the "N". Due to the surface, it is very easy to make a lot of marks, and not mess up the "text"!
Youwill find a die crack in the usual place: on the base of the bust, on the left portion of the raised area. The crack(s) will; run left, and down to the rim, and/or across to the braid, and then down to the rim.
