I live in Illinois and I was wondering if anybody ever finds any silver or 40% halves in rolls from Brinks. I have talked to a Brinks driver and he said that their employees search through all of the halves for silver. They don't do the dimes and quarters because of the machine they use, they get wrapped in plastic. The halves don't go through that machine and end up getting wrapped in paper. So I never see any silver halves while roll searching. I do find a decent number of quarters and dimes though.

Peewee:
Strange that Brinks would let the employees do that.

That is what I think. Do the employees bring in their own halves to exchange out for the silver ones? I think it seems like it should be a security risk.

I don't think that the Brinks guys are even allow the carry cash on them, because if some money is gone, no one can explain, and it will be harder if the drivers themselves had some cash

I have never found any in brinks rolls. All of my finds have come from customer wrapped rolls.

I find them in Brinks rolls all the time. They were probably pulling your leg as I doubt their bosses would appreciate them spending hours a day looking for silver at work.

I have to agree, it would be too tempting for the workers.

I too live in Illinois. And here I would say forget finding anything in rolls or bags. You might, but not likely. I've got accouts in 5 different banks and all agree that the employees have first dibbs on anything that even remotely looks valuable. I used to get 2 to 10 rolls every week or so. I stopped since I haven't found anything worth saving for years. Note all the different types of armored car companies around here? They too all have relatives that are now into coins so not much chance at all anymore. I used to just enjoy spending halves to watch people say WOW, look, a half dollar or Hey what is this? Most banks around now will not even carry those anymore. Bank of America, recently purchased most banks in the area, told me they will soon not accept bulk coins from customers unless they are willing to do the following. Place them loose in a Bank of America plastic bag, sent out for counting, pay for this service, wait until the amount is entered into your account. No account? No take the coins pal. Two banks in the downtown area of Chicago also told me they will not accept bulk coins.
So if your in the Illinois area and ever find a Silver coin, consider yourself a real exception.
