As usual this is like asking who should I marry, which car should I buy, what stocks should I invest in?///
All answers will naturally be per personal preferences. For me you left out Whitman Albums. Also, plastic tubes, 1-1/2" x 1-1/2" flips, plastic flips or just encasing in concrete.
As to what, why, etc. that all depends on you. Another thing is to acquire those plastic sheets that hold 20 - 2x2's, place in a 3 ringed binder in any order you like.
For viewing you coins you sort of can't beat an Album. Also, there are many other brands of Albums out there. And asking which is better is also like asking what house should I buy, who should my kids hang around with, what shows should I watch on TV.
Myself, I put all my coins in liquid Nitrogen capsules and keep in the refrigerator, after I clean them of course. Gee I hope you don't believe that.
In reality I have well over 100 Whitman Albums, several large boxes of 2x2's, many, many plastic rolls of coins, one notebook full of those plastic sheets that hold 20-2x2's. Then of course there are a few glass jars of coins I'm just to lazy to figure out what to do with.

You will get a wide array of opinions on this one.

IMHO, both are a great way to keep your coins; the real secret is how your store your albums, which should be in a climate controlled environment.

I use Dansco albums and love them. Some of my "miscellaneous" Dansco albums actually have the 12-pocket vinyl pages to hold 2x2s. So to answer your question, both!

Final decision will be a personal one, however here is some personal history/info that might help. I started collecting using the Whitman folders. For me, bad idea. Went to a coin shop - looked at albums and vinyl pages. Cost ruled my decision and I bought a box of vinyl pages and bag full of 2x2 flips. Could store 2000 coins for less than the price of 2 albums. Notebooks were free at work, this was back when sales catalogs came in notebooks and the old copy went to the garbage. Plus the sales person told me should I ever decide to sell my collection, go to coin show, rent a space and throw the notebooks out on the table - your in business.
Well the problem I ran into was based on how I collect. Two children, two sets - I have the fun - they get the collection someday. However, if --after getting two coins of a certain date and I find another really high grade coin for that date, I want to keep it(up to a certain quantity). This had me adding pages and/or shifting coins in those vinyl pages to hold extra coins- a real pain.
So about 4 years ago I took them all out and now store them in coin boxes made for the 2x2 flips. I can have 10 of one date and same mint and no shifting coins around. Down side- can't flip open a book and view my collection- kind of miss that.

Hope this helps in some way, as you can tell- I can't even answer this question for myself.
Rest in Peace

When we used to do 40 shows a year, we had one set of binders with the best two of each coin. Then a second set was kept back at the shop with #3+4, if we had them. Duplicates beyond that were filed.

Each week, new items were packaged, and those filled in the first set, with any moved up from the second set as need be.

If you decide on the plastic sheets that hold the 2x2's, you could do as most dealers I know do. That is they place coins in 2x2's or lately the 1-1/2"x1-1/2" size of flips, then into those plastic sheets. The trick is to only use a page for one item and basically only few dates. Example is for Nickels, just all Buffalo nickels from 1913 to 1915. Dimes from 1916 to 1919 or something like that. This means naturally there will be empty slots for future addtions. If a coin is removed for some reason, so what. Just another empty slot.
Myself, I have well over 100 Whitman Classic Albums. Practically all free or close to free. If you go to coin shows constantly talk to dealers whether you purchase any coins or not. Just let them get to know you. Then ask what they do with any Albums they acquire. Seveeral dealers I know buy coins by the albums and take each coin out and place in those flips for the shows. Usually the Albums are thrown away. So I ask for them and if they know you they may bring some at the next show. At one show a dealer brought me two boxes of them. Some Whitman, some Dansco, some Littleton and several others. Well over 40 Albums and free. Other dealers have done the same but not that many. Over the years I've probably received a thousand Albums free from those dealers. If not Whitman, I give to people at a local flea market and they in turn give me things I need or want.
