Hello,

Sifting through a large lot of world coins netted lots of old British coins. While checking dates I encountered two half pennies that were magnetic. They would stick to the post 1992 pennies.

Has anyone encountered this? Are they fakes? Would anyone fake a halfpenny?

Certainly sounds unusual - I don't believe any half pennies, pre or post decimalisation, were made with a steel core.
Can we see pictures?
When you say magnetic - have they their own magnetism, or are they just attracted to magnets? Either is unusual, but it might help guide us.
One thought, if they are magnets themselves is they may have been created for some magic trick?

A magic trick coin might be the answer here. We'd need to see pics of the coins in question. We'd be looking for signs that a coin had been hollowed out, had a magnet inserted, then sealed up with a ground-down face of a second coin.

The trick coin idea makes sense. They have their own magnetism and appear to have a seam down the rim.
