All gatherings of over 250 patrons have been banned for thru the end of the month. This means the Baltimore Show has been cancelled.
Without getting into politics, I'm pretty annoyed as a collector. It's silly.

Controversial opinion. If you're so worried about the apocalypse, buy guns not TP.

Makes sense to me. Best to err on the side of safety this early in the game.

The median age of respondents to the CCF poll on age was about 55. If the age of people attending a show like this is similar, and attendees are also "typical" in their incidence of diabetes, heart disease and lung disease, then something like 1/3 of the attendees could be in "at risk" groups for serious complications from contracting the virus.
It's not about an apocalypse. It's about slowing the rate of spread of a disease that nobody has immunity to, and that is killing people in these "at risk" groups at fairly high rates. A conservative estimate is that corona virus is about 10 times more lethal than normal seasonal flu averaged across all age groups. The mortality rate in people between 60 and 79 in China is about 6%.
Sure, the media is having a feeding frenzy that leas to that "apocalypse" quip. But the facts as they are currently understood say this is more serious than seasonal flu, and could overwhelm our health care infrastructure if we don't take simple preventive measures to try and slow transmission rates.

^-----Said well. According to the WHO the mortality rate for health individuals without pre-existing conditions aged 0-50 is 99.97% though there is an outlier which represents the 0-2 age group as all young children have "worse" immune systems. Quote: A conservative estimate is that corona virus is about 10 times more lethal than normal seasonal flu averaged across all age groups I wouldn't disagree with this, but I do because the wording implies that it carries that lethality in all age groups among health patients. Those who have pre-existing conditions I'd totally agree with you on. But for John Doe who's 35 and healthy as a horse, the mortality rate isn't 10 times higher (so far) according to the presented data. Also consider China and Italy (more so China) have generally poorer healthcare. The closer quarters and population of cities in China make this disease spread like wildfire. Because of the high number of patients it becomes lethal due to lack of resources that we find common. You said that well here. Quote: could overwhelm our health care infrastructure if we don't take simple preventive measures to try and slow transmission rates.

Better safe than sorry. If you've seen news coming overseas, it affects older men more than others. And given a good fraction of coin collectors are male dominant and is likely of older demographic - it's hard to stay it's not high risk. All you need is one spreader and the rest is history.

Cancellation was the right thing to do. As much as we love this hobby, there are times when coins need to take a back seat. Quote: Sure, the media is having a feeding frenzy that leas to that "apocalypse" quip. My wife is in the healthcare field, and works with some of the most at risk populations (long term residential nursing homes). Regardless of anything else, hopefully we avoid a situation like in Italy and China, where hospitals and health care facilities are completely overwhelmed.

Quote: -Said well. According to the WHO the mortality rate for health individuals without pre-existing conditions aged 0-50 is 99.97% Where did that quote come from? That would mean it kills 97.5% of all the healthy people in the 0 to 50 age group that gets it. Ebola doesn't kill at that rate.
