Good morning. Wondering about opinion of buying some pre 1933 certified double eagles? I have bought other silver coins from both Ampex and David Lawrence rare coins (Virginia) and very happy with both companies. Any red flags with buying cert. gold double eagles from either seller? Thinking of MS 64 or better as the premium over AU does not seem too bad.

any suggestions or guidance on this purchase? just looking to add some gold coins and preference is the historic coins v. bullion or modern mint issues. thanks all

I have bought from both with no issues. I would suggest only PCGS graded coins.

I haven't gotten any eagles from APMEX but I have bought other pre-33 coins and had zero issues. In fact one of them graded better with NGC than APMEX advertised.

The value of double eagles is primarily bullion, unless you are buying extreme rarities, eg 1870-cc. Because of that, I prefer circulated coins that are somewhat rare over MS common dates. A circulated 1858-s is California history in your hand.
