Great Collections - The finest 1953-S Franklin half dollar graded by NGC is being auctioned by GreatCollections on Sunday. Unreserved, the coin is already bid to $31,000.

That IS a pretty coin, but $31,000 (plus the buyer's fee!) is a bit crazy, at least in my opinion.

You would have to really, really love the Franklin half dollar at that price.

Do not get me wrong, I love my Franklin Dansco, but I could probably build 50 more sets at that price.

Darn 53-S prices in FBL will keep me from ever having a FBL set.
Rest in Peace

If potential buyers had to rely just on these photos then it's not worth the price in my opinion . I don't know about you guys but I can't tell if it's FBL from those picks .

I would expect the closing bid to bring in the mid-fifty range. While some think this already high at the current price, this is an exceptional example reserved for those who simply want the best at more or less any cost. What it has going for it is the NGC certification as FBL, whose standards are much more stringent than others. Beautiful coin!
