I was recently given this coin that a family member found awhile ago. It is an 1874 Indian Head cent with strong details, the lettering in the headdress is visible and the coin is in good shape except this green corrosion on the front and back.

Is there anything to do about that corrosion or just leave the coin as is? Any thoughts? Thanks!

Verdicare might be a good start.

I agree, but you can assume that the surfaces beneath the oxidation will not match well with the surrounding areas. This coin has pretty much had it.

The corrosion will most likely have damaged the coin, but you can stop further damage by using VerdiCare (available by CFF member BadThad).

What a shame as well. I can see LIBERTY poking through! It might have been a nicer example.

Unfortunately that coin is dead . Corrosion too far gone .Verdi-Care will not bring it back to a straight grade , but it will become a decent hole filler . The 1874 IHC is a better date and would have been one heck of a nice coin had it not been corroded .
