Hi,

Just wanted to show off this Namibia $1 coin from 1995 that I have recently acquired.

This is one of 2 coins issued for their 5th year of independence. The other one has a gemsbok in color on the back.

I like that coin. Do they actually circulate or are is more of a commemorative thing?

Just a commemorative thing. I have yet to find any information as to how they were made available for sale in the first place.

The gemsbok coin arrived today. This is also from 1995. I have no idea about the reason for putting the gemsbok on the coin to celebrate the Miss Universe contest being held in Namibia in 1995.

What I do know that the gemsbok is a national symbol of Namibia and is present on the Namibia coat of arms which is on the coin.
