But they so are horribly expensive aren't they ?

So as I continued my tour of Gaul I remembered something recently discovered thanks to the recent thread regards the Second Tetrarchy
My collection of Tetrarchy folles had a glaring gap
Despite having accumulated around 150 of the 'beasties' in the last few years I had somehow failed to acquire a Constantius I
as Augustus !

Zut alors !

I have around 35 Constantius as Caesar
I even have one of Constantius Deified
But somehow my atrophied brain had confounded this fact !
This was a terrible crisis

Well old "swine" that I am I rooted around and found some nice folles to oogle
Terribly expensive they were too
Around $100 per !
But then there 'she' was
Everything-Is-Better-With-French-Truffles

Looking great and even having that ancient and venerable look
Curiously the price was quite reasonable too
Around the cost of two large pizza's !
(with Coke and a side order of wings)

Quick bath, massage and VOILĄ !

All of the design is on the flan, both sides.
This coin saw very little circulation, original detail is sharp.

There isn't many examples of folles of Constantius 1 as augustus, listed in my copy of Sear.

Having only used the "Ren Wax" therapy for a short time it is interesting to see
how differently coins can respond to getting the treatment
In this case the surfaces were showing glimmers of the silvering
So the "bath" and "massage" were limited too attempting to reveal most of it
But not all of it as that can be treacherous and strip it straight down to the bones !

The light wax treatment restored a beautiful pale olive color and I think a good balance
between the two extremes

Next stop ........
Hispania !
