Well in these times of "Plague" what else is there to do really ......
While searching the near limitless options of the European Theater (ETO ?) I spied one of my favorite coin descriptions

Egypt Unidentified

When-The-Going-Gets-Tough-.....-The-Tough-Go-Shopping-!

The seller appeared to be mainly focused on French Graphic Novels (ie naughty comic books !) and the coin photos I mostly graded as fair to poor
But one was clear enough .......
(my own pic here)

Mssr PVBLIVS LICINIVS EGNATIVS GALLIENVS ....... AVGVSTVS !

Besides
Lately I find myself getting more accustomed to reading off the name
ΓAΛΛIHNOC

So I threw in a very modest bid and moved on
I was soon engrossed elsewhere when the message came in
You Won !

Well after the long journey and after a quick bath and 'massage'
and a Spring "waxing" (oooouch !)

Egypt Alexandria AD 267-8
Billon Tetradrachm of Emperor Gallienus
Obv. AVT K Π ΛIK ΓAΛΛIHNΩC CEB
Laureate and cuirassed bust of Gallienus right
Rv. Homonia standing left holding double cornucopia with right hand raised
Upright palm branch behind
Year L IE in field
10.91 grams 22-3mm

The remaining green deposits are quite hard and resistant to my humble efforts to remove

But I guess you only get what you pay for .......
which was about the price of a decent pizza
(I am now on a diet)

Quite nice, especially that reverse. Far superior to a naughty French comic book, I'm sure.

I agree that this is a super pick-up. Plenty of remaining detail!

Great find Furius! The Gallienus Tetradrachms are an interesting transition from the larger types to the small types which ended with the Tetrarchy.

....Must admit though I preferred the obverse before you cleaned it...

But I actually find the green encrustations quite appealing....Good pick up.

Not to worry about the appearances my good Seņor
(I happen to agree with your opinion)

Of late I needed to find a replacement for the 'solution/solvent' which is no longer available for use
Many items coming from overseas I find have been treated with ye olde Renaissance Wax
(which ended up removed after the night of leisure soaking in acetone)
So I decided to order a jar
After a week or so the duller and dustier look will return

I am sure after all us old trolls have our spring 'bikini wax'
we all end up much the same by July
