I don't know if this is an intentional or unintenional addition or a weird coincidence of some kind of die error but this ring looks like that gun shot wound on Lincoln's head!

Yes zinc rot rather than a mint error. Just random chance as to the location on his upper temple.

From the look of it, there is now involvement of the underlying zinc core, so whether this started as a plating bubble or a pin prick in the copper plating seems academic. Either one seems like a potential way for this damage to have gotten started.

Thank you, Spence, I looked it up and I found pictures of zinc rot looking exactly like this, made buy a guy called Richard S. Cooper!
So thanks again, I completely agree with you! It's just really interesting the position of the only significant rot on this coin!
