So why is it worth 25 cents only? 1. Die cracks are a normal die event. This happens as the die age. They are not die ending events. They are not dealt with by the mint. There is not fixing of of the die for these. Depending on how they are. They may cause further breaking, chips, die breaks, split dies rim Cuds or even Die Cuds. Until they reach the last step, they are not retired, unless the die is no longer to be used.
2. The areas that to you appear to be a doubled die, they are not. Why not, your thinking? The devices are doubled. I see the devices being enlarged. That is a true definition for a raised device. These devices on the out circle on the reverse of the ATB Quarter design is not raised But is incuse. (Sunk into the coin) When devices are incuse, the opposite event happens to the coins struck with these areas that are on these coins. So the opposite will be the devices will be incuse. (not raised) So any Machine Doubling will create before or after will made the devices enlarged. Just like what you are seeing on your coin. I gather 100 random ATB Quarters from circulation to see how many out of 100 had Machine Doubling on them. 30 out of 100, didn't have machine doubling So 70 percent of them had this Machine Doubling. Some very minor, others stronger like your coin. But they are not doubled dies. They are Machine Doubling . Caused by the machine. A doubled die is created on the die. So the machine created the doubling you are seeing. I have yet to see a doubled die on this area? Why? These are the single squeeze dies. The doubled dies on them are more to the center of the design of the dies. So thus why we are not looking at different areas on these new dies. Remember the Memorial cents that started with the doubling on the center bay? Finding a bar or a repeat of design on this area? That is the area to search for on now on the single squeeze dies.

But now on the Shield cents, there is an area that has incuse devices on the EPU area on these coins. So what does the doubled dies look like on incuse devices on that area? On the 2013 cents there is a doubled die that shows doubling on the raised devices (and the opposite for incuse devices.) Seeing this coin made me look entire differently on incuse devices. Okay, so we are going to see what this doubling looks like compared with a normal coin side by side to show the affect on these devices:

So knowing this, opposite affect will us in searching coins. First know what areas to look for doubled dies in. On the older dies we looked for enlarged devices on the outsides of the coins on these multi squeezed coins. On the single squeeze dies, the doubling is more central, but sometimes extends to the outer devices. But we look first in the center of these designs. The raised devices will still be raised on a doubled die, but the incuse ones will make the devices smaller like on the EPU on the images above. Other area you can see incuse letters for years is on the VDB on the Lincoln Cents. These are incuse:

But they are not reduced. Why not? Because this is caused by Machine Doubling. So what happens on Machine Doubling on the incuse devices? Like the EPU I showed above what does Machine Doubling it look like?

Note, they are enlarged. Machine Doubling enlarges devices, just like the devices on your quarter are enlarged and like 70% of these ATB devices on the outer ring on the design are enlarged. Because there are no DDR on the incuse devices, I keep hoping to see one though. But chances are we probably won't, unless.... The stop the hub process and re-start it.
