The ty in liberty is weak. The doubling in the motto shows doubling as well. Also, it only weighs 2.92 grams.

It appears you do indeed have a small date 1970-S... the seven appears to be lower than the nine, and "Liberty" is musty. I say "appears" because it is difficult to see the date close-up, but I'm fairly confident you do have the small date. The problem is your coin is not in the best condition, to say the least, so there isn't much of a premium I'm afraid. But good on you for spotting this variety!

And about the lower weight, it's on the lean side of what it was when made, but considering the heavy wear your coin shows, it's certainly within tolerance, so nothing unusual there. Your coin has had a rough life.

It is a small date, but thatcoindude would be incorrect it stating it is a DDO. As for the weight reduction I'd say some form of environmental damage, likely corrosion.

Sorry. I'm seeing a large date. The weight isn't off enough. If it was a coin dated 1983 up it would off enough

Correct large date. Note the differences:
I-Think-It's-A-Small-Date.-1970-S-2.92g
They are from different hubs. As mentioned the center of the '9' is the clue.

The acid dip and the chip above the '7' confused most on this one.
Spendable coin. (Unless you want to save it for a conversation piece) If spend it will probably posted here is a week with the same questions. (Then we will go through this again. See you in the future)
