1954 Lincoln Wheat Cent Doubled Die - Unlisted

tropicalbats Pillar of the Community United States 6116 Posts	Posted 03/25/2020 01:08 am Variety Vista lists no doubled dies for 1954-P, but there are 2 unknowns (no photos or descriptions) on Wexler's site and three minor ones listed on Coppercoins. I figured I'd do some close peering and see if I could pick up something in a roll of 1954 coins, and well, I did. This is pretty minor, but looking at the diagonal bar of the secondary 4 visible inside the closed section of the 4 does show that it has a fairly wide spread. And it can be seen, although lightly, in several places. Not sure if it's strong enough for a Variety Vista listing, but certainly some minor doubled die. Quite similar to, although the crossbar doubling looks a bit different and the die markers don't match, 1954-1DO-002. 1954 Lincoln Wheat cent doubled die - unlisted Report this Post to the Staff

The spread is toward the center, so most likely a class II or VIII, but without any other devices near it around the rim it would be hard to say if it's a class II or not. Probably anything like this would just default into class VIII, and honestly I think a class II would not have such distinct separation. Report this Post to the Staff
