I picked this curiosity up at a local coin show. It was labeled as a reverse-side die crack, but on closer inspection, it doesn't fit the mechanics of a die crack, given that it's not a raised seam and that there's a bit of an undercut lip on the lower half where there's shadowing.
Does anyone have any firmer conclusions of what's going on here?
