I am a coin addict

Can any of the Knights help with the 12 step program of Coins
My addiction is defined as
"The condition of being habitually or compulsively occupied with or or involved in something." That something is DARKSIDE COINS

Self diagnosis test

What is compulsive COIN shopping and spending?

People who "shop 'till they drop" for coins and run their credit cards up to the limit often have a shopping addiction. They believe that if they buy coins they will feel better. Compulsive coin purchases generally makes a person feel worse. It is similar to other addictive behaviors and has some of the same characteristics as a problem drinker (alcoholism), gambler and overeater.

Compulsive shopping for coins can be a balm for depression, anxiety and loneliness. It also can occur when a person feels depressed, lonely and angry. Buying coins and spending will not assure more love, bolster self-esteem, or heal the hurts, regrets, stress, and the problems of daily living. It generally makes these feelings worse because of the increased financial debt the person has obtained from compulsive coin shopping.

How can you tell if you are a compulsive coin shopper?
Coinoholics, when they are feeling "out of sorts, shop for a " pick-me-up." They go out or use the internet and buy, to get a high, or get a "rush" just like a drug or alcohol addict. Coin addiction tends to affect more men than women. They often buy things they do not need. This is unusual because shopping addiction tends to affect more women than men.

Many coin addicts go on binges all year long and may be compulisve about buying certain items, such as proofs, commerative items or clothing; some will buy anything.
Collectors with this compulsive disorder often have boxes and or drawers of coins with the price tags still attached which have never been viewed or catalogued. They will go to a coin show with the intention of buying one or two items and come home with bags and bags of purchases. In some cases coinololics have an emotional "black out" and do not remember even buying the articles. If their family or friends begin to complain about their purchases, they will often hide the things they buy. They are often in denial about the problem. Because they can not pay their bills their credit rating suffers, they have collection agencies attempting to get what is owed, may have legal, social and relationship problems. They sometimes attempt to hide their problem by taking on an extra job to pay for bills.

How do you control and treat this condition?
It is recommended that spending addicts seek professional counseling or a self-help group to deal with this problem. (That is why Coin Community Exist- you can take pride in the collections of others as well- thanks to all for the many post). Addictive behaviors tend to come in clusters, so if you have an eating disorder, a problem with drugs or alcohol, or gambling, you may be a candidate for COIN addiction.

Many communities have credit counseling centers that will also help with but only Coin Community is willing to help with Coin addiction.

How do I prevent Coin purchasing binges?
• Pay for purchases by cash, check, debit card.
• Make a shopping list and only buy what is on the list.
• Only buy one item at a time- it is ok to limit yourself
• Destroy all credit cards except one to be used for emergency only.
• Avoid multiple internet bids and purchases. Allocate only a certain amount of cash to be spent if you do visit any site.
• "Window shop" only while other family members are awake and can see what you are doing
• . If you do "look" at a shop during the day, leave your wallet at home.
• Avoid phoning in catalog orders and don't watch TV shopping channels.
• If you're traveling to visit friends or relatives, have your gifts wrapped and call the project finished; people tend to make more extraneous purchases when they shop outside their own communities.
• Take a walk or exercise when the urge to shop comes on.

I'm not addicted, but for some reason I allow Heritage Numismatic Auctions to keep sending me their 2 to 5 pounds-worth (by weight) of latest glossy auction catalogs about every month. If I had more discipline I'd tell them to quit the Junk mail, but I guess I like looking at Hi-Res pictures of MS65+ US coins from the 1700's and 1800's. I mean, why the hell should I care that a few days ago they sold an MS65 1795 Flowing Hair Dollar for well over $300,000? Beats me!

If I run adds in the paper to buy them, travel the four corners of the mid west seeking them, attend every show possible, read about them, talk about them and dream about them is that an addiction? The real problem is that I'm the same way concerning antique ammo boxes, fishing and hunting. Sometimes I think I may be hard to live with?
