Hello, Ken here, I'm located about 20 miles south of Austin Texas. 58 years old and my grandfather Rielly got me started collecting US coins over 50 years ago when he gave me two rolls of Buffalo nickels mostly 1936's, Indiana head pennies, Mercury dimes, uncirculated steel pennies and a 1861 Half Dime and other US coins to the mid 60's.
I'm mostly interested in US coins and throughout the years have added to the collection by going through my pocket change. Nowadays like many of us I use plastic and it takes me almost a year before filling up a small jar to go through to see if there's anything I need. Yesterday was one of those days and came across a 2017P penny, a P ?
After a internet search I discovered that the P's were struck in only that year only !
I've never been to a coin show, no family members or friends are interested in coin collecting so I'm out of touch with what is going on so that's why I'm here and looking forward to learning.

Welcome Ken! You could probably spend a lot of time learning all about the coins you already have. "familiarity breeds contempt" We tend to ignore what we have in front of us. Rediscover your collection. Buy a usb scope to be able to see the fine details. You will have fund seeing things you never saw before. Who knows but you may have a rare variety gem within plain sight. Happy hunting.

to the CCF!

Hello from one Texan to another! I'm in NJ now, but was in the Dallas area for 50+ years before I moved here. My wife and I have talked about moving again and the Austin area is one of the places we've discussed.

Hope you enjoy your time here and look forward to your post!

Vindex,
I got a usb scope and WOW ! Today I started going through my collection and began with the Buffalo nickels. I was amazed at what I did and didn't see even with my young eyes many years ago. I discovered two to add and removed three from the collection book because I couldn't see the mint stamp before.
I have a roll and a half of the nickels and all are badly worn.
