I posted before on this Half Dime, but have since went back to the same spot with my brother and metal detected several times... We found all these coins, and my brother recently added a 1865 seated liberty half that looks like the day it was minted, sitting in the dry sand for 143 years since someone dropped it...

Grades on the Half Dime appreciated... note the 1877 penny, corroded, but a cool find. This spot was like a treasure trove, probably not find anything like it again.

The Half Dime should grade XF-45. I dont know if those scratches are bad enough to consider it 'scratched'. I can't believe you found both that AND an 1877 indian head. That's obscene.

Wow! I would kiss my metal detector if I found those three coins. Unbelievable.

I don't know how long you have been detecting, but realize that this was a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Great finds, now go back and go slower for the deeper pieces.
Congratulations on the finds!

Those are some great finds. What kind of area are you and your brother finding these? I would search every inch of that place even if it took a month. Do you recall how deep the coins were? Just curious. Any ways great finds.

Hi awlgone2000.....

WOW!!

What nice finds. Especially the 1877 IHC. Remarkable.

I have a top of the line White's detector that I haven't used in 3-4 years but am going to put it to use this next summer. Being elderly () I know a lot of local spots from being a teen where logging camps were, inner-urban railroad stations, log roads, etc were located. Think I'll try my luck.

Did go 3-4 years ago and found a few minor wheaties, a Buffalo nickel, couple railroad spikes, etc. But never really got the metal detector fever or obsession.

Anyway.....nice find.

Peace

I have no idea where you found those, but I think they fell out of my pocket, lol. I have been out metal detecting a little bit, mainly the kids playground to keep it clean, and have not found anything interesting. If I had the time I would get out and look some more, but I find it amazing that you found that many older coins in one area, nice finds.
