Or, like Quebec, does the possibility exist that someday it could become independent? Just curious. Also, am curious about Hutt River coins. Are they "novelties," or considered real coins. It is a city within Australia that decided to make up its own laws and own currency none of which is legally binding nor acceptable anywhere else in Australia. Is it a joke? There are all sorts of stories about the orign of the Hutt River Province, the one that is most consistent is Leonard Casey, when faced with restrictive wheat quotas, decided to cede away from the Commonwealth of Australia in 1970. Roughly about 75 square kilometres in size, Leonard Casey became it's self styled sovereign and called himself "Prince Leonard" with his own coinage and set of laws. "Citizens"of the Hutt River Province pays no taxes and do not even vote in Australian elections. What is truly remarkable is our Government leting him get away with it. Report this Post to the Staff

They said it wasn't easy to find - it's not as if they can put up lots of signs saying "secessionist principality - this way". They got a grand tour by the Prince himself, but there's not terribly much to see - a few buildings, monuments and whatnot - and of course the gift shop. They bought me a set of HRP notes.
