Hi, I've been looking through the forums, and decided to register with the site, seem like a nice place with nice people for me to bug with newbie questions, :) I'm looking forward to learning from you . guys, starting right now with a couple of questions.
I've Recently bought a few 1 cent mint rolls. And was wondering what was the best way to store these long term, ?..
I think I may have read somewhere, that you should find one area of interest and learn and collect from that, So far I have my fifty cent collection going, now my 1 cent ram rolls, and wanting to collect the early $1, and $2 dollar notes, would this be a problem' I'm on a very low budget,
Also open to any other advice you can offer a person who is new to the game would be much apprieciatd thanx

Hi Dags
Welcome to the forum !!
Im afraid Iam also a new Aussie coin collector so I can anwer with any authority about cost of some of the coin and notes,,
But storage of coin rolls, are they in paper rolls ? I have had wheat cents and Memorial cents in the US paper rolls with no problem, Humidity is a problem which must be controlled as well as temp changes.
Hope I was a little help to you, but mainly I wanted to welcome you and let you know ,,No one I know of here will tire of questions or helping !!
Make yourself at home !!

Hello and welcome to the forum Dags.
I hope you enjoy your stay here.
Regarding storage it needs to be air tight and free from where it can get knocked.
What to collect? What ever takes your interest, thats the beauty of this hobby.
Remember one thing always buy quality over quantity.
Cheers, lars

Thanx for the welcome.
Putting the rolls into a glad bag, or wrapping in gladwrap, and putting them away in a wooden box, would this be alright, or not ?
I look at the different types of areas and I would be happy to collect everything from everyone of those lol, but impossible with my budget so I supose I will have to get it narrowed down.

Stick to a small area and expand as your wallett allows.
My reccomentation would be glad bags then in a tupperware containor. Doubble the protection.

Welcome to the Forum Dags..... May I suggest that after putting them in "zip lock type" bags, you then wrap the rolls in bubble wrap before storing them in wooden boxes or better still in a tupperware container. As to what to collect...it is very much your call. Decimals are affordable whereas predecimals can be both daunting and pricey. Of the decimals, the most collected denomination is the dollar coin.

Welcome to our CC family, Dags. Ask all the questions you want. We love to help. The Glad bag/tupperware container storage suggestion is excellent. I haven't yet started a Australian collection, so I'm not the one to advise you in that area. We have loads of Aussie collectors here though who will be more than happy to help you in your decision.

In my shop I store them in cardboard boxes. I have rolls dating back to 1966 stored this way with no problems.

Dags...be careful of the glad wrap and plastic zip bags if you are in a tropical area. Heat can cause "sweating" (condensation) in the bags.

Hi, and thanx for the welcome,
I decided to go with a soft cloth, and put them into a medium sized box, something you would put rings/etc padded sides, to add for that extra security
Also decided i'll finish my 50cent collection, and in the process decided to try and get the 1cent rolls, Don't like how they didn't have a roll for each year though :/

WELCOME DAGS STICK TO UNCIRCULATED DECIMALS UNTIL YOU LEARN HOW TO GRADE COINS AND THEN YOU CAN START ON THE PREDECIMALS
