Hi,

Here are some pictures of my 1995D nickel. Do the steps have to be perfect in order to receive the FS tag? You can notice a mark on the bottom left of the stairs that messed it all up .. In your opinion would this get an AU grade?

FS needs to be perfect for the year. FS on modern nickels is no big deal anyways.

Solid AU, and John is correct, modern nickels generally have full steps.

That nickel looks AU, but your photos are not sharp enough to evaluate the steps. Since the full steps description is a measure of strike, I have bought many such mint state nickels even if their steps have been hit and marked by other nickels at the mint. Others prefer the steps to show no hits, but I prefer the strike, particularly if it was made during an early die state.

I would say yes to AU, especially the obverse. The reverse has taken a couple hard hits, and chatter above the dome. AU-53

Just for fun, another way to answer the question is your nickel is not Au, just as gold dollars are not Ni.
